We work in the thematic areas of protection (child protection, gender-based violence and general protection), education, nutrition especially for under 5 children, pregnant & breastfeeding women & girls (PBWGs), health, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), disability inclusion, climate change and environmental sustainability as well as good governance and peacebuilding.

The sole aim or mandate of GEEWCI is to ensure the rights to protection for women and children are upheld and that women and children are well empowered and equipped to explore their potentials to the fullest in the society.

The mission of GEEWCI is to help people affected by conflict and disasters as well as climatic crisis especially women and children to survive, recover and gain control over their future through strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders and implementation of high impact and cost-effective programmes.
At the heart of our organization is a bold and strategic belief: “when women and children are empowered, the entire communities rise”. As a women-led and youth-led organization, we are not just responding to inequality- we are redefining leadership, voices, and agency across the conflict and disaster affected communities.
Our journey is grounded in the voices of women and children who refused to be silenced, our work empowers women & children, especially girls to dream boldly and lead fearlessly, and grow in safe and inclusive environments. GEEWCI strive to prevent and respond to all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence against children. We provide comprehensive case management & specialized services to unaccompanied and separated children and other children at risks including children with disabilities and children formerly associated with armed groups (CAAGs).
In collaborations with relevant stakeholders such as the ministry of women affairs and social development and the community-based structures, we facilitate family tracing and reunifications of unaccompanied & separated children as well as missing children, placement of children in need to alternative or interim care arrangement, strengthen capacity of foster caregivers and conduct positive parenting lessons for parents and caregivers.
Further, we provide quality and structured recreational and psychosocial support services to children through child friendly spaces, provide socio-economic life skills training to adolescent girls and boys, facilitate context-appropriate awareness raising and sensitization activities on child protection and care and strengthen government and community-based systems on child protection related issues including facilitation of the provision of civic documentation to children such as birth certificates and national identifications.

We address GBV root causes, contributing factors and consequences and promote healing, recovery and empowerment of survivors and other vulnerable individuals at risks. GEEWCI implement her GBV activities around the prevention, risks mitigation and response services:
Prevention: we progressively transformed conditions that perpetuate GBV in communities and enable gender equality. We reinforced accountability structures and authorities, implement community prevention efforts including social norms approaches. We promote women and girls economic, social and political empowerment, engage men and boys to advance and promote positive norms and behaviours that encourage respectful, equal and non-violent communities for women and girls.
We shift harmful social gender norms and practices, strengthen community-based complaint mechanisms and enhance the capacity of government and community-based authorities/structures to enact and/or enforce laws and policies that promote gender equality and address GBV in its entirety.
Risk Mitigation: we strive to ensure that women and girls and other groups at risks of GBV faced reduced GBV risks by ensuring that women and girls’ resilience are promoted and lead safe and dignified life in the society.
We strengthen capacity of GBV actors and/or partners to identify and mitigate GBV risks in communities, promote participation and voices of women and girls in all aspect of crisis response, facilitate participatory assessments such as safety audits to identify context-specific risks and vulnerable groups, enhance access to services and resources for all vulnerable and at risks groups, establish robust accountability to affected populations (AAP) mechanisms, support women and girls (only) safe spaces and GBV coordination mechanisms in conflict affected settings.
Response: GEEWCI ensures that all survivors of GBV have access to survivor-centred multisectoral services including in response to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA).
GEEWCI support survivors to access available services in communities in safe, ethical and confidential manner, support service mapping, update and dissemination of referral pathways, strengthen capacity of actors or partners to deliver survivor-centred services to survivors and other vulnerable individuals at risks, train actors on clinical care for survivors especially rape survivors, establish and operate women and girls (only) safe spaces in communities of interventions.

Our education programme focused to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. We strive to ensure that all girls and boys complete quality primary and secondary education leading to effective learning outcomes, we also aimed to ensure that all boys and girls have access to quality early childhood development (ECD), and women and men have access to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education including university.
We promote youths and adults vocational and technical skills for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship. We aimed to ensure substantial literacy and numeracy coverage among youths and adults. GEEWCI further work with relevant authorities to build (where possible) or upgrade education facilities that are child & disability friendly, gender sensitive and provide safe and non-violent inclusive and effective learning environments for all.

We strengthen the quality, scale and access to preventative and curative nutrition services for most vulnerable groups through supplementary feeding activities, appropriate infant and young child feeding practices, micronutrients supplementation, optimal maternal nutrition, early identification and referral and treatment of acutely malnourished cases. We reinforce appropriate nutrition coordination mechanisms and strengthen situation monitoring including supporting nutrition surveys and assessments and strengthen integrated response.
GEEWCI facilitates key strategic nutrition activities such as supplemental nutrition assistance (SNA) for children 6-23 months, supplemental nutrition assistance for pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls (PBWGs), provision and/or facilitation of access to small quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements (SQ-LNS) for children 6-23 months, facilitate skilled maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) counselling for PBWGs. We further facilitate the treatment of moderate and severe acute malnutrition (MAM & SAM) for children 0-59 months alongside treatment of malnutrition for PBWGs.

At GEEWCI, we strive to ensure that conflict and disaster affected populations have access to safe and equitable access to a sufficient quantity of water for domestic needs as well as safe and dignified access to improved sanitation facilities and community-tailored gender and age sensitive hygiene messages aiming at hygienic behaviour and practices.
We facilitate emergency trucking of chlorinated water to conflict and disaster affected populations before sustainable water supply sources are developed or rehabilitated, we strive to ensure sustained access to safe water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene through maintenance, repair and replacement of water system parts, water treatment tablets and chlorination.
We facilitate construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems including handpumps boreholes, solar, generator and electric systems. In collaborations with relevant authorities, we support the desludging of emergency and institutional latrines, provisions of gender segregated sanitation facilities and services, provision and prepositioning of WASH NFIs to the people in need (hygiene kits, WASH cholera kits, sanitation kits etc).
We ensured that affected people are reached with community-informed hygiene promotion messages thereby improving hygiene attitudes, behaviours and practices including household water treatment, proper handwashing with soap at critical times and menstrual hygiene management.

GEEWCI focused to reduce child and maternal mortalities and morbidities in the society especially in conflict and disaster affected communities through enhancing access to sexual and reproductive health services, infectious disease prevention and treatment, surveillance, prevention and response to disease outbreaks such as cholera, ebola, corona among others.
The organization promote uptake of family planning commodities, immunizations, HIV/AIDs treatment, treatment of infectious diseases such as Tuberculosis (TB) etc. GEEWCI aimed to end preventable deaths of children under 5, end epidemic of AIDs, Malaria, neglected tropical diseases, combat hepatitis, water borne diseases and other communicable diseases.

We promote disability inclusion for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in society through strengthening capacities of organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), disability working groups (DWGs), disability groups and clusters and enhancing participation of persons with disabilities in issues that affect them in the society.
We encourage persons with disabilities participation in decision making and governance affairs in their communities so that “nothing about disabilities can be done without persons with disabilities”. We empower PWDs socially, economically and politically to act as champions of their rights in the society.
GEEWCI strengthen government and community-based systems to enact or enforce laws, policies and guidelines that protect and ensure effective inclusion of persons with disabilities in the society. We advocate for adoption and/or domestication of relevant disability laws at the state levels such as the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
We facilitate awareness and advocacies for persons with disabilities on rights of access to public premises, accessibility aids in public building, accessibility to roads, side walk and special facilities, building plan, accessibility of vehicles, reserved spaces and the rest. We strive to reduce environmental pollutions, sustainably manage ecosystems to avoid adverse effects/impacts, increase scientific knowledge and enhance research capacities on addressing climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability.
